Family Law Partners Participate in 9th Consecutive Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Hill Evans Jordan & Beatty is proud to share that Family Law partners Elaine Hedrick Ashley and Michele Smith have just completed their ninth consecutive participation in the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco, California.

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is an annual event held in seven cities across the country. Event participants take part by raising money and attending the walk. The 39.3 mile walk takes place over two days, with 26.2 being completed on day one and the remaining 13.1 miles completed on day two. Participants are responsible for getting to and from the walk city on their own. Michele and Elaine have attended walks since 2009 in Charlotte (2009, 2010 and 2012), New York City (2011), Santa Barbara (2013), Chicago (2014), Boston (2015), Washington, DC (2016), and this year in San Francisco.

This year, Michele was celebrated along with a group of “lifetime achievers” who have raised over $25,000 for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Michele, personally, has raised over $50,000 during the time of her participation. The Lifetime Achievers led the walk start of Day 1 and held the banner leading survivors into the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony was a special achievement for Michele, who is a two-time survivor of breast cancer. Michele says, “It was so fun. A great event. A very hard walk.”

All proceeds from the walk go to hospitals for patient care and services, to doctors for specific cancer research projects, and to provide access to community services for patients in need, whether the need is for mammograms, treatment costs, transportation, food, clothing, and emotional support.
